Churchill Nov 6. 1931." Major-General Sir Alfred William Fortescue Knox (1870-1964), was British Military Attache at St. Petersburg 1911-18 and chief of the British Military Mission to Siberia 1918-20. Knighted 1919, he was Conservative MP for Wycombe 1924-45, and a strong supporter of Churchill throughout his twenty years in Parliament. General Knox is mentioned in the 5th and 6th volume: "The Aftermath" and "The Eastern Front." Richly illustrated with maps, charts, facsimiles, etc. (most folding), 4 tipped-in errata slips. Handsomely bound by Bayntun in half navy morocco and blue cloth, 5 raised bands, gilt-lettered direct to spine, marbled endpapers, top edges gilt. "Magnificently written, it is enhanced by the presence of the author at the highest councils of war and in the trenches as a battalion commander." - Wm. Manchester.
